Moments

I had one of these moments, this weekend. My sweet friend Ilídia, organized a "tea" party, at her home this past Saturday. She invited several other "bloggers" so that we could all meet in "person". It was a fanastic afternoon, spent in the company of some remarkable women. It was a joy to personally meet, Elvira, Manuela , Susana, Patrícia and PMT. 
The afternoon somehow, flew by, and I believe we all left, with the feeling that, there was so much more to talk about, laugh and giggle about, and plenty more recipes to share. I do believe, that this was the first of many more "tea parties". My dear friends, I cannot thank you enough for your kindness, the fact that I write my blog in english, has in no way , kept any of you from popping in for a visit. It was a blessing to have, spent my birthday , with you all.  I wish you all much joy, much love and much happiness always.

    Nunca vou agradecer a Ilídia de mais por me ter permitido conhecer-vos a todas, mulheres lindas em todos os sentidos.

    Sinto-me tão bem por saber que conto com vizinhas - e agora amigas - tão especiais e queridas!

    Diana, penso que todas ficámos com a sensação de que "o tempo voou", o que é muito bom, pois quer dizer que nos divertimos muito. Foi um enorme prazer receber-vos a todas e fiquei muito feliz por ter contribuído, de certa forma, para tornar o teu dia de aniversário ainda mais especial. Concordo com a Elvira, este foi só o primeiro de muitos encontros.
    Quanto ao facto de escreveres em inglês, como já te disse, percebo e concordo que escrevas na tua língua materna, em que te sentes à vontade. E creio que toda a gente entende. O que vale é que todas "arranhamos" inglês e conseguimos ler-te na perfeição.

    Diana, foi um tarde inesquecivel e não me canso de dizer o mesmo :). Gostei imenso de te conhecer, tal como as outras que ainda não conhecia. És uma pessoa humilde e genuina e dás muito prazer aos outros em ter-te como companhia.
    Espero que aquele momento se repita por muitas mais vezes.

My Grandmother's Alcatra de Carne

“Alcatra” is a traditional dish from Terceira, the island I live on. It is a pot roast that is cooked in large unglazed red clay pots. The pots are seasoned, and with each use get darker, and darker.  The simple spices, combined with onions, bacon and wine are what make this dish  flavorfull and so good. "Alcatra" is the Arabic word for "piece", and  it is  made with pieces of beef (round, shank, chuck). The additon of meat with bone in, makes all the difference, as the bones will give it more flavor. Lapas Grelhadas- Grilled Limpets

What are lapas you ask? They are limpets, a shellfish, think clams, but  with only one shell and so much better, they taste of the sea when eaten raw, right out of the shell. Perhaps eating a raw limpet is not your thing, then lapas grelhadas is sure to be! Easy to prepare, the lapas are grilled and served in their own shells; resulting in a savory, and divine dish. Great as a starter or as a lazy summer afternoon meal. I promise that you will enjoy this  Azorean delicacy. Fresh Lapas Butter, soft, I like salted Garlic, minced Massa de Malagueta or Piri Piri/Tabasco/Sriracha Lemon Wedges -Clean the lapas, removing any debris, sand etc. -Next decide how you want to grill them, on the stove top, use a griddle or large frying pan, in the oven or BBQ use a large cookie sheet. Fannie Farmer's Apple Pie

I baked this apple pie yesterday, for a friend. Recently he had mentioned, that apple pie was one of his favorite desserts. We were invited over for dinner last night, by his lovely wife,  I offered to bring dessert, and surprised them with this apple pie. You will have to excuse the lack of step by step pictures, I am not lying when, I tell you, I put this apple pie together in 10 minutes  I felt like I was on  the TV show Chopped.   It's the apple pie I have been baking , well since I started baking apple pies, the recipe is from one of my very favorite cookbooks The Fannie Farmer Cookbook. A cookbook that I have had for a very long time, and the one I go to for alot of my baking.  It's a quick and easy pie to make, and tastes wonderful with a scoop two scoops of vanilla ice cream.
