Nostalgia....

“ There  is a  lovely warmness  about  feelings  of  nostalgia  as  though  in  one's head one  is  putting  on a  pair  of  comfy old slippers  and  curling up  in  front  of a  fire .”~William E. Geist

Blackberry Jam

Image
Today is the first day of autumn, perhaps my favorite season. I love the cooler weather, I even enjoy that it gets darker out early. I think for me it's even a return to the kitchen, baking, and cooking comfort foods. You  almost feel the need to have foods that are warm and cozy. This is also the time of year, when I do most of my jam making, sadly this year, the fruit pickings are so very slim. Our figs and grapes, this year did not fair well, not only us, but on the whole island. Last year was so bountiful, it resulted in plenty of jars to enjoy during the winter month's. The next best thing is, to purchase frozen fruit, which is the case with these blackberries. One kilo of berries, resulted in about 4 jars of jam, some what costly, but it will still be nice to open up a jar of jam during the winter. The perfect pairing to blackberry jam, has got to be warm bread. So I set to it and baked a loaf, of quick Irish soda bread. It was nice to get back into my kitchen, and it'

An Old Friend.....

A man's age is something impressive, it sums up his life: maturity reached slowly and against many obstacles, illnesses cured, griefs and despairs overcome, and unconscious risks taken; maturity formed through so many desires, hopes, regrets, forgotten things, loves. A man's age represents a fine cargo of experiences and memories.                                                                                                         ~Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Srº Manuel da Adelaide, 90 years young xo, Diana

The End of Summer.....

Image
I don´t care what the calendar say's, today is the end of summer. My babies are going back to school tomorrow, I am already missing them. We had such a wonderful summer, three months of perfect. Perfect for us anyway, it was quiet, calm, peaceful, happy, and ohhhhh sooo very lazy. Lazy, I think that was my favorite part, no scheduals, no routine, just doing exactly what we wanted to...even if it was nothing.....absolutely nothing. Today, is our last carefree Sunday, for weeks on end now, Monday, had melted in with the rest of the other days. Sometimes even being entirely forgotten, as all the days just seemed to effortlessly mesh into one big happy vacation. Tomorrow morning, this all changes, almost like clock work, Monday will now be known as  MONDAY...... life will be hectic and busy again. Routine, and scheduals will commence again for my three monkees, and I.  Once the last bus of the morning, has picked up Simon, the house will grow quiet. QUIET . I have butterflies, and fee

Happy 7th Birthday Simon

Image
When did you get so big Simon ? Seven already....you have been a real joy my child. I have often thought that you came along, at a time when I was ready, to be a mommy again. I was stronger, and more confident, and believed that once again, I could do this. Another chance, a precious gift, like Tomas, and Emma , and Sara. You are so funny, so stubborn, so smart, so bossy....what´s not to love. You are also very kind, and always know the sweetest things to say, at the right time. Let´s be very honest here, you are my youngest, my baby.    I'll love you forever.... I'll like you for always... As long as I'm living... My baby you'll be... Happy Birthday Simon ! xo, Mommy
